NSBS is very flexible as to where players fit in the lower age groups (T-ball and Mini).  Things beyond just age, such as skill, experience, maturity, behavior, and even parent schedule/availability, are all factors in finding the right fit for you and your player.

As players progress into Rookies and above, there are more rules to follow based on guidance from Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken.  Playing down into a lower division once your player has aged out is not allowed.  Playing up into a higher division is also generally discouraged unless your player passes a skill evaluation and is able to handle being in a dugout with older kids.

Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken designate May 1 as the cutoff for each age group in baseball.

Softball has a very similar age/division structure and philosophy as baseball, although because we play against other organizations rather than an internal rec league, our governing bodies are the local Delaware County leagues that we are members of instead of Babe Ruth.

** Special Note on Softball Age Group Changes **

The age cutoffs for all divisions have changed as of Fall 2025.  In prior years, January 1 was the cutoff, but this has now moved to September 1.  That change means two things:

1. Girls with birthdays in September through December now get an extra year of eligibility in the age group they played with this past spring.
2. This will align better with scholastic cutoffs such that girls will be much more able to play with everyone in their same grade than they had in past years.

New age groups are:

• 8U = birth date between 9/1/2016 and 8/31/2018 (2019 if in first grade)
• 10U = birth date between 9/1/2014 and 8/31/2016
• 12U = birth date between 9/1/2012 and 8/31/2014
• 15U = birth date between 9/1/2009 and 8/31/2012
